Celebration and frustration as the League season comes to a close

Second place for the top 4 sides after a mixture of wins and losses on the final weekend of the League season.

The 18th and final weekend of the League season and a mixed bag of results. There were comfortable wins for the 1's, 3's and 4's but defeat for the 2's and 5's. As a result, Richmond's leading 4 sides all finished as runners-up in their respective divisions and as a club, we should all be incredibly proud of the level of our achievement. There should also be some frustration that at each level, we had opportunities to go one better and bring home the silverware.
The 1's travelled to newly crowned Champions Hampstead and, after a wet square had reduced the match to 30 overs per side, Richmond inserted the hosts and dismissed them for just 92 off 22.3 overs. The wickets were shared with Bhavesh Pankhania picking up 4 for 28 off his 6 overs. In reply, the early loss of Greg King and Andrew Plummer was overcome by Bhav and Arthur Sewell before Andrew Lowe finished off his three year spell with the club with 12 not out to see us home. So Hampstead defeated comfortably twice by Richmond and some might argue that with both sides finishing level of points, the head to head results should have seen us crowned as champions. However those aren't the rules so second place with honour it is for the 1's.
The 2's entertained North Middlesex and conceded 303 off 50 overs. A dropped chance when the young North Midd opener was on 0 proved costly as he went to score 154! In reply, Nathanael Scott and Dan Fryer both recorded half-centuries but wickets fell regularly and we were all out for 243.
The 3's took on Ealing and bowled them out for just 88. Richmond knocked them off for the loss of just 2 wickets, Neil Hemstalk dominating with 78 not out.
The 4's travelled to Bentham, already promoted and hoping that a victory for us and not for Highgate would crown us as Champions. We got the win, scoring 189 for 6 off 50 and bowling Brentham out for 150 but Highgate won and so we had to settle for 2nd.
The 5's finished their season off with a defeat but have remained in Division 2 off the 1987 League.
The traditional end of season party at ODP was long and loud, with everyone displaying their Karaoke skills - Greg King a particular crowd favourite - and the Player of the Day awards for the second half of the season were presented.
And so we look forward to 2016 with confidence through the club and the knowledge that there is much to do over the winter to keep building.
