Richmond's 3rd XI played its first match at the new Newman Cricket Ground, located at Christ's School.

On a blustery April day, Richmond welcomed Livestock Green to our new second home ground, the Newman Cricket Ground, at Christ's School.

The outgoing school contractor had failed to cut the outfield before the game and was summonsed to travel up from Sussex to fulfil this obligation. However, because he would not arrive until tea-time, it was agreed that a 40 over match would be played but split into two halves of 20 over per side to make it fair for all.

Leverstock Green batted first, recording 69 for 4 from their initial 20. Richmond passed this to secure a lead at tea time and went on to win the game comfortably.

The outfield apart - which was eventually not cut as the contractor arrived only to drive over a brick and damage his mower, everything else was excellent. The newly laid pitch was hard and played well. The new covers, sight screens and players "dug-out" all look great. There are a few things that the club will attend to to make things eve better and the grass will be cut before we welcome Uxbridge 3rd XI for the first League match to be played at the NCG on Saturday 7th May.
