Great League and Cup wins for the 1's but reverses lower down the club

Hampered by poor availability throughout the club, Richmond suffered a weekend of mixed fortunes on Saturday 4 of the League season. There was good fortune early on as Edmonton conceded our 5th XI fixture, thus giving Saurabh's boys a 10 point boost.
Many of Saurabh Wahi's boys were actually playing for the 3b's against Brondesbury 3's. Some ordinary fielding permitted Bron to record 236 for 8, which we were unable chase down finishing 39 runs short.
The 2's and 3's travelled to North Middlesex. An inexcusable but perhaps not inevitable last minute withdrawal left the 3's not only one player short but also without a recognised wicket keeper. This partially contributed to the 45 extras that were conceded in North Midd's total of 245, a score which Richmond failed to chased down by just 4 runs.
The 2's batted badly, being dismissed for just 102, a total which the hosts knocked off in just 14 overs. A stuffing.
The 1's had a very different look about it with 6 of the regular bowlers of the last 3 seasons missing for a variety of reasons. Therefore to bowl North Middlesex out for 198 on a decent pitch was a very good effort, Matthew Alexander James Dickinson leading the way with a debut 4 wicket haul.
In reply Richmond were cruising at 91 for 1 before losing three quick wickets and wobbling on 105 for 4. Ben Compton and Joe Smith steadied the ship but their dismissals with 30 runs required tilted the balance back towards the visitors. Skipper Alex Griffiths and the experienced head of Dave Burton were not to be thwarted and the winning runs were secured with 7 balls remaining.
On Sunday, 7 of Saturday's 1st XI travelled to Sunbury for the Regional Semi-Final of the Royal London National Club Championship. Richmond won the toss and chose to bat. There were contributions from several batsman although no one went on to dominate, Arthur Sewell with 40 and Alex Griffiths with 35 the highest scorers. However a score of 218 for 6 off our 45 was respectable if not spectacular.
Sunbury were out of the blocks quickly, moving along at 7 an over at the start. But they were losing wickets, Dave Burton taking the first 3 and Michael Wood the 4th. For the second day running, Matt Dickinson stepped up to the plate to take 3 for 22 and, with Richmond excellent in the field, our hosts fell 55 runs shorts. A super win, supported by small but vocal group of Richmond supporters.
Overall a disappointing Saturday but perhaps not surprising. A rough estimate would suggest that we were missing more than 20 players, if not more. There is no doubt that we have the strength throughout the club to succeed at at all levels. However, we will only do so if we have good committed numbers on a consistent basis. Sunday's Cup win proved this.
