Successful end to the season for U17s

On a slightly damp and drizzly second Sunday in September 2017 Richmond U17s beat Cheam U17s in a competitive and keenly contested encounter played on the impressive main square at Cheam CC. Having won the toss, Cheam elected to bat and despite boundaries being difficult to come, proceeded to post a steady score of 126 for the loss of 4 wickets from 25 overs. In an attempt to beat the onset of the predicted afternoon showers, tea was postponed until the end of the match and Richmond set about chasing down the target. Cheam bowled well with a skilful and nagging consistency and took regular wickets but several careful and well-crafted contributions from the Richmond top order saw the team reach the target by making 128 for 6 from 24.1 overs. Richmond's Sami Shori was ajudged Man of the Match by Neal Harvey of the Mid-Surrey League for a top score of 44, with figures of 5-0-17-1 and taking two difficult catches. Neal presented the trophy to the winning captain, Rhodri Evans and medals to both sets of players after which the boys were finally able to enjoy the generous tea provided by the home team as the rain beat down hard in Cheam.
