Season ends with disappointments but pride

On a wet and windy final Saturday of the League season, Richmond's 2 and 3's did what they had to do but results did not go their way.

And so the League season comes to an end and for the second year running, Richmond are left wondering where the silverware is. The 1's travelled to Southgate determined to hang on to 3rd place and this they achieved with a comfortable win on Duckworth-Lewis. Griff invited Southgate to bat and the home side were restricted to 190 for 9 off their 50 overs. Three wickets for Burts, 2 for Ports and a couple of run-outs. In reply Greg King and Bhavesh Pankhania put on 40 for the 1st wickets before Bhav and Ben Compton put on 57 as the rain began to tumble. Ahead on DL, the 1's took the points to finish the season on 112 points and 10 wins - the same number as 2015. However, Teddington finished 21 points ahead and take the honours - our congratulations to them.
The 2's had to win quickly against Enfield and hope that Ealing could do us a favour. We did our bit dismissing the visitors for 100 and knocking them off in next to no time - Kshitij Desai at his most destructive - but Ealing didn't being bowled out for just 108, a total that North Middlesex knocked off with ease to take the title by 2 points. 2nd place again for the 2's is a terrific effort after a poor start to the season.
The 3's also finished 2nd trailing Hampstead by 2 points. An easy win over North London saw the visitors dismissed for 148 and Richmond securing the target by 7 wickets with plenty of overs to spare. The only real challenge was the rain but once 20 overs had been batted, the game was won. The 3's have finished in the top 3 of the 1st Division of the MCCL for the last 13 years - a proud record.
The 3b's and 5's were beaten by the weather. For the 3b's 4th place following promotion last season consolidates our status as the BEST 4th XI in Middlesex. The 5's can claim a similar crown as the highest ranked 5th XI in Middlesex cricket. The success of both of these sides demonstrates our strength in depth and we should all be very proud of the that. Mention yesterday for an excellent ton from Ashy Hanspal for the 5's.
And so the end of another season. Was it a good one? Yes in so many ways. Should we be slightly disappointed? Yes, we should. The abundance of talent in the club is exceptional and each side can look at those moments this summer which cost points and ultimately titles. However, we should also be proud that Richmond remains one of the strongest clubs in the Middlesex system. With our Under 12's crowned as County Champions, the Under 11's wining the County Cup and the Under 17's finishing as runners-up in the whole league, as well as plenty of success at all age groups levels, the future is bright. Bring on 2017.
