The league emphasises participation and getting games played. Games can therefore be between 20 and 30 overs and organised on mutually convenient days of the week or weekend to allow clubs to fit the league around their players’ needs.

The MWCL games are played in coloured kit and with a pink ball and stumps to optimise visibility during evening games. The league is split into two regional divisions, the East Middlesex Division and the West Middlesex Divisions. The winners of these leagues progress to the county final.
