Disappointing weekend but promise for the future.

The 1's lost heavily in the League and cup but give 1st XI Cup debuts to 5 Richmond stars of the future.
A disappointing but in certain ways encouraging weekend for the Club as the 1's suffered their worst defeat for a few seasons in the League and were knocked out of the Middlesex Cup by Brondesbury. The 2's however had an excellent win at Hampstead to move to within 1 point of the top of the table and the 3's a winning draw against Barnes. The 4's and 5's both lost disappointingly.
The 1's welcomed North Middlesex to Old Deer Parkand invited the visitors to bat first. England Under 19 Luke Hollman was the star for North Midd scoring an excellent 158 not out to guide his side to 276 for 3. Not the result that we had hoped for when we inserted them. Our fielding was average at best, with a number of catches going down, but we cannot take anything away from Hollman's innings. In reply Richmond's top order was decimated by upcoming Middlesex seamer, Ethan Bamber, who took 5 for 40 off 12 overs. With Adam London unable to bat after jarring his knee in the field, we slumped to 76 all out and a 200 run defeat. A second defeat in succession, admittedly against the best two sides in the League, leaves some cause for concern. We are not batting as well as we did last year. However, there is plenty of time left in the season - we are only a third of the way into the season - and a few back to back wins over the next few weeks will restore out title challenge.
The 2's won the toss and inserted Hampstead. Matthew Alexander Janemes Dickinson was the star with the ball, taking 5 for 30 off 15 as the hosts were bowled out for 112. Stephen Bail and Zain Bhatkar got us off to a good start but when both were dismissed with the score on 55, there was work to do. But Max Read followed up his ton last week, with a well made 30, and fittingly Dicko was in at the end to secure the 10 points.
The 3's made 152 on a difficult pitch at Barn Elms. Huzefa Sajawal and Chris Clubb were the highest scorers with 31 and 39 respectively. In reply, Barnes were managed 113 for 8 with Phil Allen taking 3 wickets.
The 4's got off to a great start with Rodleigh Fortuin and skipper Robin Held putting on over 100 for the first wicket. But once they were dismissed, the batting crumbled and we were dismissed for 162, a score that Indian Gymkhana's 3 knocked off easily.
The 5's faced Twickenham 4's and scored 164 for 9. The hosts chased this score down for the loss of just 1 wicket.
On Sunday, a very young and inexperienced Richmond XI faced a full-strength Brondesbury at Old Deer Park. Our XI included 7 players under the age of 20 and they acquitted themselves well. However, Brondesbury's experience paid off as they recorded a score of 233 for 7 off 45. We needed Ben Compton, Vineeth Manjunath and Greg King to score well and at one stage, this looked likely. But Compo fell for 22, Vineeth 35 and Greg for 50 as the rate slipped away from us. However, it was very pleasing to see so much excellent young talent on show. Tanmay Rutang Thanawalla kept very well and Arun Bhasin, Arjun Bhatt and Kyle Seth all performed well with the ball. The boys all fielded well and we can take heart from knowing that there is a lot of excellent talent coming through the ranks.
