1. Welcome!

Welcome to the 2023 season at Richmond Women’s Cricket!

We are really excited for the year ahead. This follows a fantastic season in 2022, where we have many achievements to be proud of. Amongst a number of successes, we won silverware at U13, U15 and U17, as well as being runners-up in the ECB cup at U15 and the winner of the U17 title in the south of England! The Women’s team were also winners of the Surrey Women’s Elite T20, and runner up in the Surrey Women’s Premier League!

We hope to continue building on these successes as we move into the new season for 2023.

In addition to our usual line up, we have entered two new competitions:

  1. The ECB National U19
  2. The Middlesex Cup at U11, U13 and U15

We wanted to share with you our ambitions for the 2023 season so we can hit the ground running and that speak to our overarching purpose to promote participation for all women and girls who would like to join and play cricket at Richmond W&G Cricket at any level, in addition to striving to deliver outstanding performances that win games.

Our Cricket Goals

  • Provide a safe and enjoyable environment, blending participation and performance
  • Maintain a quantity of players to field competitive teams
  • Support those players who are strong enough with an opportunity to play an age group above
  • Welcome and inspire players who are new to the game at any level
  • Give players as much game time as possible
  • Support players to succeed at county, regional and national level
  • Support and encourage parents to step into cricket roles (coaching, umpiring and scoring) and non-cricket roles (Age Group Management and support roles) within the section

Our Cricket Objectives

  • Maintain and grow female cricket participation at Richmond
  • Maintain Richmond W&Gs cricket as a leading female cricket club in London, Middlesex and Surrey
  • Foster relationships with local non Girls’ Cricket clubs to offer girls an alternative to mixed cricket
  • Compete to win while maintaining the spirit of cricket
  • Develop hard ball skills and confidence as soon as possible, based on ability not age
  • Recognising achievement, progress and success
  • Set a culture that will encourage parental/volunteering support
  • Be a leading club in the County Age Groups (CAG) pathway in both Middlesex and Surrey Counties (currently 32 players in the county setup)
  • Offer a welcoming place to play W&G’s cricket
  • Year on year continuity with achievable and maintainable growth
  • Access to quality coaching
  • Ample training and fixtures

Our Coaching Philosophy

We aim to bring the best out of every cricketer, with a mix of nets, conditioned game play and technical sessions (such as 1:1 or small group for drills for batting, bowling and fielding skills) to practise skills required in a match (e.g. backing up, field placement, bowling variation etc). We want to enable performance improvement, with an aim to win for both the team and the individual, so that we continue to develop and to achieve success.

We are always keen to hear from new players, and there are opportunities throughout the year for women or girls new to the game, to come and try cricket with us – free – to see if they like it.
