As the 1's, 3's and 4's falter, the 2's climb and Paddy Stern records Richmond's first every league double hundred.

Week 13 and a less than satisfactory day for the Richmond sides, although there were some individual highlights. The 1's lost the toss on a used wicket at ODP and not surprising Southgate batter first. They mad a steady start reaching 199 for 3 before Bhavesh Pankhania started getting among the wickets. Southgate were dismissed for 186, Bhav returning his first 1st XI 5'fer.

On a turning wicket, 187 was going to be a tough chase and Richmond once again got off to a poor start, with a couple of early LBW decisions going against the home side (as indeed Southgate's batsmen had experienced earlier). However with 15 minutes to tea and Andrew Lowe looking in control, there were still hopes of a partnership to edge Richmond closer. However, three identical dismissals - all caught at 1st slip off the left arm spinner - saw us slump to 68 for 7 and in effect the match was over.

29 more runs were added before Lowie chanced his arm and perished to give Southgate the win. With Hampstead and Ealing both winning, the 1's remain top but not by the slender margin of 3 points. On to Ealing next week for a big game.

The 2's continued their winning ways with an emphatic 9 wicket win at Eastcote. Ani Muraly took another 5 wickets as the home side were dismissed for 168, which the 2s chased down in 25 overs, Greg King and Simon Elliott both recording unbeaten half-centuries. The 2's move into second place 14 points behind next week's opponents Ealing.

The 3's yet again loss the toss, were inserted, scored masses of runs and were unable to bowl the opposition out. However, the result, which sees Richmond slip into second place, was overshadowed by a record breaking unbeaten 200 by Paddy Stern , a first by any Richmond player in the history of the Middlesex League. For the record Richmond scored 336 for 3 in 45 overs but Eastcote hung on 8 down for the draw.

The 4's suffered a disappointing defeat against Middlesex Tamils 3's but remain in second place. Richmond scored 204 for 9 in 52 overs and the Tamils were 104 for 7 before a 100 run 8th wicket partnership (littered with dropped catches) gave the visitors an unlikely victory.

The 5's were dismissed for 250 in 45.5 overs against Indian Gymkhana 4's who made little effort to chase the target and ended up on 132 for 5 in 48. The 5's remain comfortably mid-table in the Division 2 of the 1987 League.
