Another poor Saturday

Poor availability and indifferent performances see Richmond lose 4 matches and concede a 5th.

4 matches - 4 defeats; The 5th XI unable to raise a side. All in all a very, very poor Saturday for Richmond which, for the second time this season, sees us virtually pointless for the day.
The 1's travelled to local rivals and defending champions Teddington, lost the toss and found themselves in the field. Fair to say, despite the loss of an early wicket, the hosts got off to a flier and were 40/1 after just 6 overs. However, the introduction of debutant Abdullah Nazir put the brakes on and at drinks (25 overs) Teddington were just 82 for 5.

A partnership of 109 for the 6th wicket tilted the balance back to the home side but Richmond finished strongly with the ball and a target of 215 was eminently gettable.

Richmond's reply was steady despite the loss of JIF early on. By the halfway mark Ben Compton and Adam London had steadily built a platform for a good chase reaching 82 but on the resumption, Compo was adjudged LBW. Adam and Abhishek Jhunjhunwala seemed to have it under control, progressing nicely to 123 for 2 with 17 overs remaining. Adam then clipped to mid-wicket. 4 runs later Abhi ran himself out. 127 for 4. Greg King and Bhavesh Pankhania did what they had to do, scoring sensibly at the required rate of 6 an over until Greg smeared, Bhav flashed and the tail was exposed. As the rate rose above a run ball, the writing was on the wall and defeat came at the end of the 49th over. Ultimately despite some highlights, this was another very disappointing result which could and should have been avoided.

The 2nd XI batting at ODP was also well below par as the 2's failed to chase down 220. Only skipper Simon Elliott showed any real determination, scoring 61. He received decent support for James Essex at one stage but it was not enough and the 2's went down by 55 runs.

The 3's batting wasn't much better. 5 down for 50, the 3's recovery to 197 for 8 was largely due to an excellent 72 from Niranjan Shimoga. However, North Middlesex cruised home to win by 6 wickets with time to spare.

The 4's totalled 200 off 44 overs with Huzefa Sajawal the star with 97. Darcy Spence took 3 for 29 as South Hampstead got over the line 8 down.

So all in all a crap day for Richmond. Availability was poor going into the weekend and many individual performances on the day not good enough. As always, we put it behind us, hopefully learn from our mistakes and do better next week.
