Our Under 19 Girls take the national silver medal in T20

On Tuesday 19th August, our U19s girls headed up to Kibworth Cricket Club in Leicestershire for the ECB National T20 Finals Day. In the semi-final, they took on Stockport Georgians. We batted first and made an amazing total of 185/1. Two brilliant performances from lvreen Dhaliwal, who scored 84 off 62, and Jemima Bowman who scored an unbeaten 90 off 58 took us to this excellent total and put us in a very strong position. However we still needed to bowl and field well and we did. The girls kept Stockport Georgians down to 135 runs off their 20 overs, taking 6 wickets along the way. There were some impressive bowling figures from Devishi Bhalotia, who delivered 4 overs, conceding only 16 runs and taking one wicket. Zunaira Ahmed bowled 4 overs for 33 runs and took two wickets, while Ivreen followed her fine performance with the bat to bowl 4 overs for only 19 runs and 2 wickets. This victory meant Richmond girls reached the final against Hursley Park from Winchester. We won the toss again and chose to bat first. Despite losing the in-form Jemima to a run-out for 0, we scored a total of 164 runs for just 4 wickets. There were two outstanding performances: once again Ivreen showed her class with 65 off 52 ball while Issy Davies scored 53 off just 39 balls. They received great support from Neharika Shenai, Aadya Aggarwal and Vani Dhanuka with the bat who all made important contributions. The girls then faced a challenging fielding innings, which all came down to the last over—unfortunately, they lost it as Hursley Park chased their total down in 19.4 overs, Hursley's overseas player, Matilda Richings, survived a strong appeal for caught behind early on and went on to take her side home with 67 not out. Our girls played exceptionally well in both games and throughout all the knockout rounds leading to the final. 69 clubs entered spread over 4 regional divisions. To have won our region (which covered 8 counties in the South-East) and finish 2nd in the country, coming away with some shiny silver medals, was a fantastic achievement of which we should all be very proud. Well done girls! Really well played!
