A run chase to be proud of came up just short against Barnes

It was a proud evening for coaches, parents and players alike – what a chase, what a game; just 6 runs short after 20 overs. 126 was a big score to chase but we so nearly got them.

The most important thing of all every player contributed and will have learnt something from the game.

Barnes got off to a great start and impressed with their running between the wickets. But what more impressive still was that our batsman watched what Barnes did and then emulated them – with quick calls – a few chancy singles and only one run out – inevitable when taking the risks necessary to chase the Barnes score. RCC must bat with the same intensity when batting first in future games.

RCC U11B bowled reasonably well although the wide count was higher than it usually is. Fortunately the team removed the better Barnes batsmen with 2 smart catches – well done Thomas and Leon – that’s 2 games running with no dropped catches... no-one actually remembers the last time the team dropped a catch.

The chase was brilliant to witness – RCC were at times behind the asking rate but then pulled up with it thanks to Jon Read’s man of the match batting – 33 runs before being bowled. In the end the team came up just short despite a sterling effort by our tail.
There is a return match against Barnes later in the season when hopefully the game will be as close again.

Congratulations to Fergus, Evan, Thomas, Leon and Ralph in earning their RCC caps tonight.
