The first half century for RCC U11s - congrats to Karan!!!!

On a majestic early evening at NPLs picturesque ground in Bushy Park, Richmond CC U11s witnessed the first ever 50 to be scored by one of our age group. And what an innings it was by Karan. RCC U11B lost the toss and were put into bat by NPL. The openers Karan and Smithy (Will) set about building an innings, and by the 7th over had put on a modest 26 runs. Smithy was then well caught to end what as looking a solid innings, and in came Jack N who took the tempo up a few notches. The partnership between Karan and Jack then grew in stature with boundaries coming off the bat of both batsmen at regular intervals. The 100 came in the 15th over and Karan started nearing his 50 shortly after. With Karan needing 2 in the final over to reach his landmark, things tensed up, however he managed to achieve this impressive landmark with one ball to spare. His 50 coming off 47 balls. With Karan taking the applause, it would be easy to forget that another outstanding innings was being witnessed. Jack finished not out on 38, which took him only 28 balls, and included 5 blistering fours. What a player!

So RCC U11B finished on 135-1 from the 20 overs. An enormous achievement.

RCC U11Bs then took to the field with a spring in their step. Zach and Sam W opened the bowling, with the latter taking a wicket (clean bowled) with his 2nd ball. The wickets then fell at regular intervals, including a brilliant direct hit run out by Zach (a number of direct hits he managed during the game), an outstanding catch by Oisin off Thomas S bowling to remove their best batsman and a Surrey County player, another bowled by Shay D, a neat run out by Smithy at wicket keeper, and a marvellous caught and bowled by Zach. We fielded a number of U10s in this game and to the man they did themselves proud. I was particularly impressed with the tight line and length from U10s Archie L, Thomas T, and Thomas S, and Smithy was solid behind the stumps, whilst from the U11 bowlers there were some impressive overs from Zach, Sam, Leon, Oisin and Shay.

RCC U11Bs restricted NPL to 102 for 6 from their 20 overs, so won by 33 runs.

No guessing who my MOTM goes to……..Karan for his brilliant not out half century! Well done indeed!
