CUP game: Richmond U11B v India Gymkhana - Friday 12th May @ IGCC
RCC U11B innings: 37 All out off 10.2 over
Indian Gymkhana U11 innings: 38 for 2 off 7 overs
Indian Gymkhana U11 win by 8 wickets
RCC U11B were put into bat and what followed was testament to the old adage of playing with a straight bat. Too many RCC U11B players shied away from the ball, with their first movement back exposing their stumps, unfortunately with disastrous results. We saw 5 players succumb to the same shot, however credit must go to the bowler who took a 4 wicket maiden in the sixth over which proved the straw that broker the camel’s back. In-between the collapse was some lovely batting from Ishaan (2 fours), Grayson Elliott, and Joshua T (who hit a glorious off drive for four). With extras top scoring with 16, RCC U11B only managed 37 runs before we ran out of batsmen (we were one short however), which in any form of the game is near impossible to defend.
RCC U11B then fielded, with Indian Gymkhana reaching 27 before the first wicket fell, a great catch from Max off Leon’s bowling. In the very next over Joshua T bowled the No3 batsman, to apply a bit of pressure, however with only a few runs to get, the total was reached by the end of over 7, with Indian Gymkhana winning by 8 wickets.
Given that the game had concluded early, we agreed to continue bowling to see out the 20 overs. This saw a further 3 catches for Max off the bowling of Joshua, Ryan and Leon, a cracking run out by Joshua (rocket arm!!), a great caught and bowled by Oisin, and a wicket for Ishaan bowling his namesake “Ishan”. All in all it was an encouraging bowling display, and am confident that were we to have posted a decent score when batting the game would have been somewhat closer. Credit to Indian Gymkhana for the way they squeezed the game, however it’s back to the drawing board for some of our batsmen. We need to practice playing a straight and good length ball with a full face/straight bat.
