too few runs to play with....

Report kindly written by James Raynor

RCC were up against an experienced and well drilled side. The Old Ruts opening bowlers were quick and quite accurate. Our openers dealt with them well and got in line and showed solid defence. But scoring proved difficult and on several occasions our players chose the wrong ball to hit and a mid innings minor collapse put us on the back foot. The lower order ground out runs to get us to 66. There were no outstanding performances with the bat but Grayson, Miles and Zak unfurled some very pleasing shots. Ignoring shot selection 10-15 runs could have been added to the total with some more decisive calling and running, something for the team to work on.

In defending a small total enthusiastic fielding would be essential, and the team were on the ball and never lacked enthusiasm. The Wilson brothers both bowled well, with Zach's line and length being good. Overall the bowling was admirably tight and RCC gave away 18 less extras than the opposition. Their batsmen were strong and focussed on defending what was straight and hitting hard at anything with width. They hit 9 fours compared to RCC's 4. Our pair of spinners, Zak and Alfred pulled us back into the game with some wickets, supported by Magnus. In the end though just not enough runs to defend, but some positive signs, good team spirit and development areas that we can easily improve upon.
