Richmond U11A 83 for 3 Beat Malden Wanderers U11A 82 All Out
Mid Surrey Colts League U11 Division One
Malden Wanderers Ground
2nd July 2017
On a gloriously sunny Sunday morning at the excellent ground of Malden Wanderers, Richmond’s Captain for the day, Ollie F, won the toss and chose to field. With the main bowlers being Sam G (4O, 10R, 0W), Finn C (4O, 9R, 1W) and Arjun G (4O, 9R, 1W), supported by 2 overs each from Ollie F, Chris K, Fraser B and Charlotte S (also 1 wicket), Richmond managed to contain Malden Wanderers to a score of 82 for 5 off their allotted 20 overs. In truth it could have been worse, as Malden Wanderers rallied in the second half of their innings, and our Team also gifted them far too many extras (OMG….36!).
Richmond’s batting got off to a poor start with the unfortunate early loss of both openers, but Neil P (retired 30 no), Oscar Y (20) and Ollie F (19 no) comfortably knocked-off the required runs between them.
This is Malden Wanderers first year in the Mid-Surrey Division One League, and they are understandably trying to build their competitiveness. In fairness, the match was a little more one-sided than the score suggests. However, whilst Richmond had far too much for Malden Wanderers on the day, our Team can still learn something from them on the extras front, as their 19 overs bowled yielded only 8 extras. On the other hand, our bowling was surprisingly erratic, with a wides total of 22 exceeding the runs scored by Malden Wanderers’ top batsmen. Indifferent bowling also adds to the number of byes conceded, as the wicket keeper’s job becomes more like that of a goal keeper. There is a feeling amongst the managers and coaches that some of our players are trying to bowl too quickly, at the expense of control and accuracy.
Man of the match: Neil Prabhu for his excellent 30, retired not out.
