There are people in this world that think cricket is boring. I have a word for them …. “fools”. The atmosphere at Christs this afternoon was so tense that even the nearby allotment holders temporarily gave up tilling their smallholdings to see what all the fuss was about.
With all 9 Wombles crowded around the bat, our final pairing of Kabir and Richard held their nerve and those with smallholdings could return to their labours safe in the knowledge that our unbeaten record against Wimbledon was maintained.
If it was possible to give 11 man of the match awards after today’s game I would and those that don’t’ like oxymororons can go hang!!
Mubeen and Baxter – brilliant opening partnership and tidy bowling
Lachlan – sharpest of run outs to dismiss Wimbledon’s most dangerous batsman
James – very tidy behind the stumps – diving full length to leg to save several certain byes.
Fred – first ball 4 and tidy bowling
Mac – top scorer and held us together when the pressure was on
Ben – 5 wickets for 9 runs – wow!
Fergus – crucial runs at the death and tidy opening spell against strongest oppo batters
Richard and Kabir – together at the death to get those last crucial runs with all the Wombles in as close as permitted when a wicket would have lost us the game and finally the one and only..,
Braveheart himself – Tanuj – who put his own safety to one side to take a really tough catch out in the deep to the Wimbledon top scorer which turned out to be his final contribution – hope the finger heals quickly Tanuj – what a brave brave lad.

For the record, the Wombles scored more runs than us but our extras count at 5 fewer was a crucial difference.
