All 5 Richmond sides won their League matches to see the club off to the best possible start to the season

The 1's travelled to Premier League newcomers, Highgate, where Greg King won the toss and invited the hosts to bat. On Highgate's small ground, the aerial route was much preferred by the home side's 2nd wicket pair who put on well over a hundred before an inroad was made. At 143/2 with a lot of overs remaining a high score looked to be on the cards, but wickets began to tumble with Will Jenkins and Daniel Stanley to the fore. Highgate were dismissed for 209. In reply Richmond got off to the worst possible start losing 2 wickets for 1 run after just 7 balls. Adam London and Will Will Sobczak set about the recovery and had put on 114 before London was dismissed for 49. Rob Gibson joined Sobczak and moved steadily towards the target before Sobczak fell for 69. Having picked up 4 wickets with the ball, Dan Stanley came in at 6 and proceeded to bring the game to a swift conclusion. 42 not out off just 14 balls saw the 1's comfortably over the line.

At ODP, the 2's tore through Highgate's 2nd XI rolling them over for 92. All of the bowlers contributed with Neil Hemstalk's 4 for 11 the pick of the figures. Richmond's reply seemed serene enough until a flurry of wickets left us 61 for 6. Enter Usman Arif and he and Dan Fryer played positively to see the 2's home by 4 wickets.

The 3's and 4's both played Ealing. Ealing batted first in both games and were knocked over cheaply in both games - the 3's for 132 and the 4's for 102. There were wickets for both Coles - Barnaby Cole in the 3's and Philip Cole in the 4's - then 50's for Kieran Evans (3's) and Rodleigh Fortuin (4's) which saw their respective sides to victory.

With 40 points in the bag, attention turned to the 5's under new skipper Sam Gibbs. When news of their win came through, there was the biggest cheer of the day. A stunning 200+ run victory against Kenton 4's and 50 points achieved.

So all in all a very satisfying day. There is a lot of talent at Richmond this year and, with commitment and passion, the club can rightly be optimistic for what lies ahead.
